Shading + Color Workshop 2025
Thank you for your interest in our skill based tattoo workshops! Please review all details below. If you’d like to apply for the Shading + Color Workshop, please submit the application form.
In 2025, our complete in-person tattoo training is structured into four main workshops:
- Beginner Workshop: Tattoo liner skills (lining, stippling, whip shading) + sanitization + operational habits correction
- Shading Workshop: Tattoo mag shading skills
- Color Workshop: Tattoo color skills
- Gray Wash Workshop: Gray wash + advanced shading skills (mag combined with liner and round shader)
This double workshop is the Shading Workshop + Color Workshop.
It is designed to have 2 levels, each takes 5 days. Artists have the choice to join Level 1 only, Level 2 only, or both Level 1 + Level 2. See further below for prerequisites.
Our previous students know that our curriculum is very comprehensive and there is never enough time to absorb everything as there are too many skills to master. However, we feel confident that in 10 days, you'll learn more practical technical techniques than a few years of an apprenticeship.
In Level 1 Shading Workshop (L1) from Dec 1 to 5, you will learn:
- Breaking Down Mag Shading Techniques (step-by-step)
- How to Create Smooth, Clean Shading
- Mastering Blending for Grey Wash & Color
- Building Solidness, Depth, and Direction with Mag Shaders
- Solidness, Depth, Shading direction, Cartridge size
- Avoiding Skin Damage & Fixing Bad Shading Habits
In Level 2 Color Workshop (L2) from Dec 8 to 12, you will learn:
- Color Theory Foundations: Mixing, Diluting & Ink Brands
- Work Sequences and Design for Color Tattoos (including on melanated skin)
- Round Shader, Mixing Shading Skills, and Fixing Skills with Color
- How Skin Reacts to Each Color + Complicated Texture Analysis
- Applying All Shading Techniques to One Complicated Color Tattoo
- Real Skin Demonstration (if voted)
Price:
- L1 only: $2,800
- L2 only: $2,800
- L1+ L2: $5,300
Class size: 6–10 students
Location: 185471/2 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana, CA 91356.
